Lost Dogs: Gambling Boom Puts Pooches in Pinch
Some dogs have reached the end of their very short leashes. With all of the commotion about online gambling, poker, sports betting, etc., somebody under the gambling umbrella had to suffer. Who would’ve thought it would be the dogs? According to an AP story, the attention garnered by the rest of the gambling industry is putting plenty of greyhound racing tracks on the brink of closing. In fact, of the 46 tracks nationwide, most of them are suffering huge financial losses and the smaller ones are in fact closing. Where is the greyhound equivalent of Smarty Jones? If nothing is done to save the industry, there will be more tragedies like the one of Nipper, shown in this picture, who was so despondent about the lack of interest in his sport that he tried to take his own life with a snub-nosed handgun. Thankfully, his ownder intervened and Nipper received a prescription to Wellbutrin and is currently seeing a therapist. Gambling Boom Leaves Greyhound Racing in The Dust [AP]
