Can the Old Farts in Miami still Bring the Heat?
Here’s why. I know I’ve been saying this a lot, especially last NBA Basketball season, being the Miami Heat hater that I am, but THIS time, you got to admit I may have a point.
First, let me get this one out, the Miami Heat got lucky in last season’s NBA Playoffs. They faced off with the Detroit Pistons somewhat broken from their nip and tuck NBA Playoffs series with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
If the Heat faced the Pistons the Milwaukee Bucks got in the first round, then
it will definitely be a different story. And yeah, Richard Hamilton got hurt in the first round of that playoffs war before Rasheed Wallace got hurt in the second so Miami was lucky enough to face a team with two players not playing at a hundred percent.
Second, this Miami Heat team is just too old to repeat. Shaquille O’Neal’s minutes have been dropping like the next Story of the Year album sales and it’s only a matter of time before father time gets the best of the Man of Steel.
Third, Dwyane Wade got the benefit of the referee’s calls in the NBA Finals. You can bet your ass that NBA Officials will be keeping that in mind once the new NBA Basketball season kicks off. THAT means, we might see Dwyane Wade lose a couple of calls here and there as the season comes along and that will definitely hurt Miami with the way Wade attacks the lane, trying to draw yet another phantom foul.
Of course, like Shaq, the Miami bench contingent led by Alonzo Mourning and Gary Payton is not getting any younger. Heat fans must not forget the fact that these guys came to Miami to win an NBA Championship. Now that they finally have their rings, the drive to win another just won’t be as strong this season as last year.
Oh yeah, the NBA has new balls for this new NBA Basketball season. Shaquille O’Neal and the rest of the Miami Heat hates it. That alone is bad for Miami already. Of course, you don’t want to go head-to-head against these NBA executives like commissioner David Stern. Doing so will just earn you fines, suspensions and losses. Yep, NBA referees are also in Mr. Stern’s payroll too.
Who will win the 2007 NBA Championship? Here are some odds from Bodog:
Miami Heat 4/1 (boo!)

losing to Chicago Bulls 108 to 66 is a shame! Defending NBA champions and on 2007 NBA season’s opening night, too. at home court at that! WTF?! Can the Miami Heat defend the NBA Championship with that kind of performance on opening night? CRAP!

[…] The Heat are still at the very BOTTOM of NBA Basketball in scoring. Is it the new balls? Um… NO. Like what I wrote a month ago, Dwyane Wade won’t get the benefit of the officials’ calls this time like he did in last season’s NBA Finals. And yeah, because of that, these old farts in Miami won’t be able to bring the heat. […]
