Houston Texans REGRET not Drafting Vince Young
Of course, after local boy, Vince Young, scored the game-winning touchdown in overtime to beat Houston, that will follow for sure.
The Houston Texans management could’ve drafted local boy Vince Young as the overall No.1 draft pick. Instead, they went for the defensive ace Mario Williams. Now, they are watching Vince Young lead the Tennessee Titans to victory in overtime, beating their disgruntled team, 26-20.
It’s early, ten games early into the starting quarterback career of Vince Young, but the Tennessee Titans could be entering Sam Bowie-Michael Jordan territory here.
If Young’s blossoming rookie season with the Titans is any indication of what the next ten seasons might look like in Tennessee, the Titans will remember April 29, 2006, as the day they lucked out.
Meanwhile, the Houston Texans will remember that afternoon in New York City as ‘’The Day the Booing Began.'’
Some rejoiced in Young’s performance as just deserts for a team that had rejected him. Others were laid low by the combination of Young’s performance, the Texans’ shortcomings and the very real possibility that Texans fans will see Sunday’s outcome repeated in Texans-Titans rematches into the next decade.
‘’What we are experiencing now,'’ sports talk show host Rich Lord said, ‘’is what we would have experienced if the Houston Oilers had passed on Earl Campbell (in 1978) and he had gone somewhere else.'’
‘’If you draft Vince, you have the Luv ya Blue era all over again. But it’s not going to happen, and it’s just a shame. Texans fans will rue the day for a long, long time.'’
And yep, Houston Texans fans are making sure their disgruntled football team hears what they have to say about this Vince Young situation. Hell, these guys wrote a letter addressed to Houston Texans owner Bob McNair. What did the letter say? Read on.
‘’Mr. McNair, how can over 1 million people know more about football talent than you and your employees (and) that Vince Young is a special, once-in-a-lifetime talent?'’
He he… Nice.
