Jamie Gold Gets The WSOP Gold
Who is Jamie Gold? Well, he’s the new 2006 World Series of Poker champion.
That’s a good start for a profile.
But like the past three WSOP champs, we barely know the details of these guy’s life before they were plunged into wealth and fame brought about by winning the millions of dollars top prize and the huge media exposure following that.
In Jamie Gold’s case, he cashed in $12 million plus the very pricey gold and diamond WSOP bracelet.
Ok, so who is Jamie Gold?
Gold was a former reality TV producer and former agent to "The Sopranos" star James Gandolfini and "Desperate Housewives" actress Felicity Huffman. He actually entered the WSOP as part of a celebrity team of players.
The 12-day Main Event marathon that began with a record field of 8,773 players ended with the flourish that Gold made his trademark, says ESPN. With 3.9 million in chips in the pot, Gold declared "all in" and stood beside the pile of cash at the table to convince the last remaining player, Paul Wasicka, it was his for the taking.
Reports have it that our new poker millionaire sought the advice of the legendary Johnny Chan before entering the Main Event. Looks like he’s quite a good listener and a fine student because he managed to accomplish what seemed like an impossible feat to the many players that entered the WSOP championship.
Gold dominated all throughout the Final Table event, he was the consistent chipleader and always "playing the big stack." So huge was the stack he amassed that many of his opponents failed to catch up. Although all of them did leave the felt as certified millionaires.
Still, there’s nothing sweeter than scooping it all. Besides, people hardly remember that you’re in the final table of the World Series. It’s who was the WINNER that always counts.
So we finally have a new WSOP title holder. Though he has been playing tournament poker since, I think, last year and finished several times in the money, he wasn’t considered a real poker pro. He was more of in the league of celebrity players.
But that’s going to change now.
Gold has signed a two-year endorsement deal with Bodog Poker. As part of the agreement, Gold will play in live tournaments around the world representing Bodog Poker Team.
