Who will be AL East Champs? Yankees or Red Sox?

It’s the half-way point of the MLB baseball season and at this point, both the Yankees and the Red Sox STILL have a lot of work to do.

They have, after all, the premier rivalry in all of MLB baseball. The animosity between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox is like a stubborn Kobe Bryant feuding with an egotistical Shaquille O’Neal, and if any of you caught it two years ago, it wasn’t pretty.

After all, they got their asses handed to them in the NBA Finals after having both Karl Malone and Gary Payton join the Shaq-Kobe led powerhouse Laker team in Los Angeles.

So what’s up with both the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox so far? Let’s start with the Yanks.’

The Yankees are still trailing the Red Sox at the halfway mark. At the start of spring training, these Yankees knew that they will be coming in the new MLB baseball season more powerful than ever, after wooing some of their Boston rivals to join their cause.

Boy, were they so wrong on that one.

Everyone’s hurt, it seems. Randy Johnson looks alternately untouchable and geriatric. Alex Rodriguez has thought / stressed / panicked his way to a .174 average in situations considered close and late. Meanwhile, the White Sox and Tigers will apparently hog the wild-card spot.

That means the Yankees will likely have to catch the Red Sox to avoid being shut out of the postseason for the first time since 1993.

As for those Red Sox, they are as if destined this year to finally put an end to the Yankees’ eight consecutive AL East title reign. With both Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz having freakish first half performances, it looks like they will be the new kings of the East as far as the American League is concerned.

Also, the Boston Red Sox now has the edge where it counts the most since the late 90s, PITCHING and DEFENSE. Will the Boston Red Sox dethrone the New York Yankees as AL East champions? It remains to be seen but Bodog already has the odds to that one and more.

MLB baseball team odds to win MLB World Series:

Atlanta Braves 60/1

Boston Red Sox 5/1

Chicago White Sox 9/2

Houston Astros 16/1

New York Yankees 19/2
