Nicky is the Smart One, And Phil Is Favorite to Win 2006 WSOP
While sister Paris and company assembled at the Tao Nightclub in Vegas strip for a star-studded New Year’s Eve party, Nicky Hilton counted down to the new year her own way. By hosting a poker tournament at Caesars Palace. According to Poker Prof’s blog, the other Hilton’s New Year’s Eve bash equally glittered with stars:
"The Poker tournament was opened to the public and attracted 92 entrants, including celebrities, a pack of championship class professional poker players, walk-ons and some friends of Nicky Hilton. The pros included 2005 WSOP Circuit Tournament of Champions winner Mike Matusow, WSOP champion Joe Awada, 2005 WSOP Champion Jennifer Tilly, Phil "Unabomber" Laak, Chip and Karina Jett, WPT and WSOP champion John Phan, Evelyn Ng, WSOP multi-millionaire David Williams, Antonio "Magician" Esfandiari and two WSOP bracelet’s owner Scott Fischman, and Woman Poker Player covergirl, Cyndy Violette."
The Prof’s Blog also reports that Nicky Hilton played for over two hours and outlasted many of the champion professionals.
Little sis Nicky is proving more and more that she’s the smart one in the family. While Paris continues to bar-hop around the globe, stealing an Olsen twin’s (I’m not sure if it’s Mary Kate or Ashley, they look the same to me) boyfriend along the way, Nicky has kept a low key while creating her own designer’s bag company and now penetrating the poker circuit. And holding her own, no less, against the pros. Won’t be surprised to see her in action at the WSOP when major events kick mid-June. Speaking of the WSOP, some are already putting their money on Phil Ivey to win this year’s championship event. According to Card Squad
The overall favorite to win is Phil Ivey, with 200-1. Second, with odds of 250-1 is Daniel Negreanu, and third is Howard Lederer at 300-1. (wow, we link to CardSquad now?)
Those odds were released about four months ago in September. That’s even before Ivey won the Monte Carlo Millions in November. No doubt that ups his odds even more. However, with the number non-professional entrants growing every year we can’t discount the possibilty of another no-name player winning the multi-million event. After all, it has been happening the past three years. Poker pros may act like rock stars but they seem to lose their mojos against less experienced but more aggressive amateur poker players. Still Ivey is a safe bet. Last year he placed in all tournaments he played in then capped the year with a big win. 2006 could very well be his year at the WSOP. Nicky Hilton, Paris’ relatively intelligent sister and all round glamour-addict, is building on her Chick “tweeny” fashion label which she launched back in 2004. Her new label, Nicky Hilton Beverly Hills (no points for originality), is looking to attract an older and more discerning customer. Nicky Hilton is quote as saying her new brand is “clothes my friends and I could wear,” – by implication Chick is something she and they would not, which isn’t althogether surprising.
“I don’t want to be one of those celebrities that slaps their name on a label and collects royalty checks,” said the celebrity-wannabe, as she emphasised her credentials; she studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.
The Nicky Hilton Bverely Hills collections includes pieces adorned with pearls, polka dots and a pink palm tree motif. Nicky is quoted as saying she finds inspiration in “things from my everyday life,” such as the palm trees outside the window of the Beverly Hills hotel room she used to call home. “Waking up every morning, I would see those trees. That just clicked,” said Nick. Hearing that mindless nonsense is enough, you would have thought, to put off any semi-conscious fashion buyer. Despite that, we all know Nicky Hilton Beverly Hills is destined to be a runaway success.
