Soccer Fan Forgets There’s Life After the World Cup

A dumb American perpetuating the stereotype of the dumb American.

In the heat of the 2006 FIFA World Cup, a guy from this proud nation just won’t let America take a backseat. After the US soccer team made the news as being forgettable, a US soccer fan landed in the news for being forgetful.

He was a man with a plan: to be in Hanover to watch the World Cup match between Poland and Costa Rica. There’s just one problem: he could not even remember where he was checked in.

It was the day of a bittersweet victory for Poland over Costa Rica. The Poles’ soccer team did not only get one goal but two. Too bad they weren’t advancing. It was a FIFA World Cup Group A match, both teams were already out of the tournament.

It was a no-win situation, and here was this American soccer fan, literally lost. No amount of World Cup 2006 free tips can sure solve a problem like that.

The American had checked into his hotel before going to see the 2006 FIFA match. When he tried to return to the hotel after the game, he just couldn’t find his way.

It’s crazy how one fan’s World Cup is another fan’s Holy Grail—a neverending search left this guy wandering around helplessly for well over six hours. Finally, at 3 in the morning, he found his way into a police station and pleaded for help.

Now, here’s the part where we just want to sympathize with this poor guy, an American tourist lost in Germany in the middle of the World Cup, but soon realize he’s just plain stupid.

When German police questioned him, they discovered he couldn’t remember his hotel’s name, his hotel’s address, nada. For chrissakes, he is 25 years old (and hails from Boston).

All he could remember was paying 10 Euros for a cab ride to the city center, and going past a park and a Mercedes dealer on the way to his hotel. WTF??? Dude, here’s the mother of all World Cup 2006 free tips for ya: write things down.

There are several Mercedes dealers in Hanover so it took some trouble finding one in the vicinity of a park. When the police finally drove him there, they still took an hour driving round and round before the American finally recognized his hotel.

That was a hell of a FIFA World Cup trip to remember. But we guess he won’t.
