Here’s an item that would make Picasso want to escape his grave and kick Steve Wynn in the ass.

You’ve all heard by now how a peripheral vision-impared billionaire Las Vegas casino owner damaged a $139 million worth Le Reve” (The Dream) Pablo Picasso painting. I can almost hear the horrifying ‘Aaaahhhhhssss’ of many in the art world once I’ve digested the news.

It was reported that Wynn had just finalized a $139 million sale to another collector of his painting, when he poked a finger-sized hole in the artwork while showing it to friends at his Las Vegas office a couple of weeks ago.

Lucky us, Nora Ephron was there to witness the whole thing ergo giving us this account of the whole messy artwok penetration:

“There, on the wall, were two large Picassos, one of them Le Reve. Steve Wynn launched into a long story about the painting….he was standing in front of the painting at this point, facing us. He raised his hand to show us something about the painting — and at that moment, his elbow crashed backwards right through the canvas, ripping a two inch tear near the subject’s crotch.”

Lemme exploit that fact further for you, Wynn created a finger sized hole near the crotch of the painting’s subject, which is a woman who was having an erotic episode of her own.

Wynn is said to be suffering from retinitis pigmentosa, an eye disease that damages one’s peripheral vision. As we write this post, his people are now replacing all his collection with fake printouts. Lest he goes on an unintentional poking binge in the future.

Anyway, he’s left with no choice but to keep the painting and restore it. There goes the $139 million. But what’s that kind of amount to this guy? After the incident, the mogul was back in his jolly self and declared “It’s not about the money! It’s a picture, it’s my picture, we’ll fix it….”

At least he can go down in history as the moron who destroyed Picasso’s dream.
