What did the Philadelphia Eagles do to Jeff Garcia?
Man, what happened to the mild-mannered Jeff Garcia?
This guy was JUST suppose to be a solid backup to the injury-prone Donovan McNabb. This guy was JUST suppose to show how father time has reduced the level of his game after all these years. This guy was JUST suppose to keep Philadelphia Eagles fans coming, giving them false hope that they can win football games without No.5.
Yep, nobody thought Jeff Garcia will do this.
After winning their last three NFL Football games, the Eagles are probably generating a lot more hype now than the hype they were having when McNabb was still playing. Unbelievable.
And yeah, last Sunday against the New York Giants, Jeff Garcia, a player who is suppose to be aging, mild-mannered veteran, was anything BUT aging and mild-mannered.
Of all the things Jeff Garcia was going to do for the Eagles after replacing Donovan McNabb this season, spiking the ball at an opponent to earn an unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty wasn’t supposed to be on the list.
He was going to hand off crisply, make quick reads on passes, and give the team a chance to win. Stepping outside that mild-mannered role, adding some flavor to the vanilla, wasn’t in the playbook.
And yeah, these things are exactly why the rest of the Philadelphia Eagles are following Jeff Garcia and his leadership. After all, this new emotionally-charged Jeff could be leading them towards a playoff spot when it seemed thinking playoffs without McNabb is just being naïve.
”Last year, we were a team divided. We didn’t have a hope,” Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook said. ”[Garcia] comes in, he doesn’t make many mistakes, he runs this offense, he leads the team, and with him back there, we have a chance of winning, and that’s what we need.”
