Will we see Schumacher win F1 title for the last time?

Sunday.

That’s all Michael Schumacher has coming to the 2006 Brazilian Grand Prix for the last and final race of the F1 season. Coincidentally, this is also the last and final race of Schumi’s illustrious F1 career.

After a disappointing engine failure at the Japanese Grand Prix, Schumi needs to win in Brazil and hope Fernando Alonso won’t score another point for him to win this year’s title. Alonso leads the drivers’ championship race with 126 points with Michael Schumacher in close pursuit with 116.

They were tied coming to Japan, but with Schumi’s DNF, and after another Alonso GP win, the gap has now grown to ten championship points. Schumi will be ready to put everything on the line now, hell, walking away from the game with another F1 title will just be cool for the German F1 driver anyway.

We are at the end of an era. When Michael Schumacher started his F1 career he was surrounded by drivers like Prost, Mansell, Senna, Berger and Alesi. They were the old guys and now he is the old guy. He is leaving the sport at the point where some really exciting talent is coming through, Kubica, Rosberg, Hamilton, Piquet Jr, Vettel and Davidson should make it an equally interesting grid next year.

This will be the Schumi swansong and only no.1 will do.

Michael Schumacher can’t do anything about the Drivers’ Championship other than win the race at the 2006 Brazilian Grand Prix and hope Renault ace driver, Fernando Alonso, won’t finish any better than ninth place.

Unfortunately, that’s asking for a goddamn miracle.

Well, Schumacher still has the Constructors’ title to win for his team anyway. Ferrari’s best chance of taking the Constructors’ Championship is by taking 1st and 2nd places. Should they allow one of the Renaults to take second place then taking back those nine points will be tough. Renault leads the Constructors’ Championship with 195 points while Ferrari follows suit with 186.So Ferrari need to lock out the front row of the grid and go hell for leather.

That’s all they can do.

Can Michael Schumacher pull off a miracle and win the 2006 F1 championship? Here are the odds.

Fernando Alonso 1.03

Michael Schumacher 9.00
