Year of the Dog Belongs to Detroit

The city of Detroit clearly has a lot to cheer for in this brand new year.

Eminem just released his new album and has remarried his wife he swore to kill in his songs, Kimberly Matthers.

This proud city will also host the sporting world’s most grandiose and spectacular annual event, Super Bowl XL, with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Seattle Seahawks going at it to determine the kings of the National Football League (NFL).

However, the story for Mo’ Town is it’s hoops heroes. Yes, ‘Detroit Basketball’ is currently wreaking havoc both in the professional ranks and college hoopdom.

In the NBA, Detroit is home to the BEST team of the league this year, the Detroit Pistons. They just pounded the Los Angeles Lakers en route to their 37th win of the season. The Pistons, with only five losses so far this year, are looking good to win the 70-win plateau this year, not to mention another NBA Championship.

Led by Chauncey Billups and the resurgence of sorts of one Rasheed Wallace, the Detroit Pistons are just powering over everybody this year and with the looks of things, only the Dallas Mavericks can stop them as of the moment.

Dallas defeated Detroit in their last two meetings this year, once during the preseason and again in this regular season.

In the college ranks, Detroit is also surprising every basketball pundit with yet another victory over a ranked team, this time against Wisconsin.

[ Michigan is a having an amazing season. Michigan basketball fans are not used to seeing them do this well. Through self imposed sanctions and injuries to key players, Michigan has not had a good season in a long time. This season, Michigan fans are asking themselves, is this our year? Is this the year we finally make the tournament and make it to at least the sweet 16 or beyond? ]

[ I think this season is Michigan's year. I don't think they will win the Big Ten title because the Big Ten is very strong this season. However, I do think they will make it to the big dance and win a few games. They have a strong starting five and a good bench players. They play a good zone defense and they have guys who can score big baskets like Daniel Horton and Dion Harris. They will be even better when starting forward Lester Abram comes back from his ankle injury. ]Detroit Sports

On that note, let me just say this: Detroit is CLEARLY, the place to be at this point of the sporting calendar. Wondering why New York is dubbed as ‘the city that never sleeps?’ It is because the Big Apple, together with the rest of the sporting world, is busy watching Detroit, ALL NIGHT LONG.
