Dario Franchitti won the 91st Indianapolis 500 last Sunday, but was it a classic Indy 500 race?

For Dario Franchitti, of course it was.

As for the rest of us? Maybe it was, maybe it wasn’t but one thing was certain, the weather sure had a huge part in it.

Cloudy skies held the 91st Indianapolis 500 into a three-hour rain delay and a yellow flag ending 34 laps shy of the scheduled distance. It sure was a race full of hopeful drivers alright but jeezus… All I saw was a bunch of cars lining up in single file for ALMOST the entire time.

It didn’t help having all these cars collide with one another after the very instant the safety car comes off too.

Was the 91st offering of this annual racing extravaganza a goddamn joke compared to all those classic wars that happened at the Indianapolis racetrack in the past? Hmm… Maybe not. Here’s why.

Despite all the rain delays, the 91st Indianapolis 500 did have 24 lead changes among nine drivers over 166 laps, making it one of the most competitive Indy 500 battles there is to date. Dario Franchitti ended up with the checkered flag in the end but it sure was one ”colorful” battle before we got there to say the least.

For one, Marco Andretti went for the win at Indianapolis 500 once again after his heartbreaking loss as a rookie. Unfortunately, he ended Indy 500 THIS TIME with a somersault traveling 200 miles per hour. Yikes.

The two-time Indianapolis 500 champion, Helio Castroneves had fueling problems in the pits, dropping him to as low as 29th place. Incredibly, he bounced back to finish third place.

You know this gal named Danica Patrick? ‘Course you do. As much as perverts want to see Danica win the Indianapolis 500 last Sunday, she didn’t. But hey, at least this sweet little pussy… CAT did put up a valiant fight before bowing to the eventual winner, Dario Franchitti.

Danica Patrick again went toe-to-toe with the leaders and went as good as second place before finishing eight fastest. Eight place in the Indianapolis 500 but STILL No.1 in your hearts, I’m sure.
