F1 star Lewis Hamilton beats cheating Fernando Alonso
Wow, it looks like Fernando Alonso will just do anything to win races now eh?
For all ya’ll who missed last weekend’s qualifying for last Sunday’s 2007 Hungarian Grand Prix, apparently, two-time F1 world champion Fernando Alonso tried to deny his teammate Lewis Hamilton of a qualifying lap just so he can start last Sunday’s race, P1 from the grid.
Well, Fernando Alonso did succeed in grabbing P1 in qualifying after he, intentionally or unintentionally, stalled in the pits with teammate Lewis Hamilton waiting behind him. Alonso got out of the pits in time to make his last qualifying lap but Hamilton, because of Alonso’s delay, didn’t.
Hamilton was hanging on to the P1 starting position before Alonso’s rather cheap tactic. When Alonso ran out for his last qualifying run, with Hamilton failing to beat the checkered flag for one more qualifying lap, the two-time world champion blazed past Hamilton’s time to snatch P1 and demote his teammate to P2.
So did Fernando Alonso reap the fruits of his master plan last Sunday? Not quite. The FIA then penalized Alonso for his infamous ”delaying tactic” and demoted him from P1 to P6.
What made all of these worse is the fact that the entire McLaren-Mercedes team was penalized as well, denying them of any constructors’ championship points no matter what Alonso or Hamilton does in the 2007 Hungarian Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton got his P1 position in the starting grid back and he went on last Sunday to win his third career win. As for Alonso? The cheat finished 4th behind BMW-Sauber driver Nick Heidfeld.
So how’s the relationship between Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton now after the controversial ”delaying tactic” in qualifying? Apparently, the two McLaren drivers are not in speaking terms anymore although Hamilton claims he’s not holding a grudge over his two-time world champion teammate. No matter how much he tries to cheat these days.
”My respect for Fernando remains the same,” Lewis Hamilton said. ”I think when you grow up and see someone who is as successful as you want to be, be it Fernando or Michael Schumacher, you have to respect them for what they have achieved, and I do.”
”I have watched him for the last few years and really admired what he has done, so that hasn’t changed. But since yesterday he doesn’t seem to be speaking to me, so I don’t know if he has a problem.”
”Going on from now, I hope he still speaks to me. I’m easy to get on with. I don’t hold grudges over anyone.”
Please Lewis, do us all a favor and beat Alonso so bad this season so that he’d just retire.
