Gilbert Arenas already hearing NBA MVP Chants?

For a guy who wears a big zero, Gilbert Arenas is definitely something special.

Gilbert Arenas wears the number zero mainly because that’s the number of points some people thought Arenas would be scoring when he was entering college and when he was about to play some NBA Basketball.

Well, last Monday, it was Martin Luther King day, and against the Utah Jazz, Gilbert Arenas had a dream, that he’ll score 51 points and make those people who doubted him before eat their words now.

Gilbert Arenas scored 51 points on a Martin Luther King day, the most since the NBA started commemorating Martin Luther King and what he has done for society. Arenas’ 51-point performance edges both Michael Jordan’s and Dominique Wilkins’ 40-plus point-performances back in the 90s.

Yep, chants of ”MVP! MVP!” were even louder.

”MVP? That trophy is given out at the end of the year,” Washington Wizards superstar Gilbert Arenas said. ”This is (37) games into the season so you can’t do too much about it.”

”Right now, Steve Nash is above everybody. You have to really do something dramatic in this league. If Kobe averages 35 with an 81 and he didn’t get it, you have to do something else in this league to overtake what Steve Nash has done,” he added.

Well, maybe that’s Gilbert’s way of saying, ”Get off my back, I’d score 82 if I wanted to. I’m not just doing it for you, bitch.”

Who will win the 2007 NBA Championship? Here are some odds from Bodog:

Chicago Bulls 7/1

Detroit Pistons 9/1

Dallas Mavericks 7/2

Miami Heat 4/1 (boo!)
