Hot Moms Wanted, real Desperate housewives for TV!
Many popular TV hot MILF moms aren’t actually mothers (duh). Now the search is on for their real-life versions, MILF or not.
“Do you vacuum in high heels and pearls? Are you a taskmistress with the filofax or a shopper extraordinaire?” Thus asks a promo page for Are You a Real Housewife?, the new contest by Bravo TV, which brought us reality TV hot moms, The Real Housewives of Orange County. [Show site here.]
Another new contest, Hottest Mom In America, makes this invite on its promo page: “We’re looking for Moms that turn heads wherever they go — the supermarket, the football stands, or Kindergarten.” Geeze, MILF’s are just all over towns in America, easy! [Contest page here.]
Having two new TV hot mom searches to welcome 2007 is no
coincidence, and a long time coming. They, and reality TV sexy moms, are natural offsprings, as it were, of popular TV shows the likes of Desperate Housewives, which brought to light a formerly unthinkable idea: Womanly hotness does not halt at age 24, or the first onset of pregnancy.
Desperate Housewives is arguably today’s hottest TV show with a decided focus on sexy hot moms. Its pilot episode, aired in October 2004, had the best performance by a pilot for ABC since Spin City in 1996. In real life, only three of the six Desperate Housewives are mothers, one of them unmarried. (That’s hot, too).
Teri Hatcher, 43, was once married and is the single mother of one daughter. Marcia Cross, 45, just got married and is expecting fraternal twins in April. Felicity Huffman, 45, has two daughters with her husband, actor William H. Macy.
Eva Longoria, 32, was married once and is engaged to NBA basketball star Tony Parker of San Antonio Spurs. (And even the testosterone-laden Bodog sports betting has hot moms as celebrity betting props.) Nicolette Sheridan, 44, was once married and is engaged to singer Michael Bolton, her boyfriend for the second time around.
Hot moms abound in showbusiness: Angelina Jolie, Brooke Burke, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Kate Beckinsale, Charisma Carpenter. So much so that the label extends to women who are mom-aged and attached romantically: like Eva, Nicole Kidman who is biologically childless, or Anna Nicole Smith for reasons that can only be explained by her entire life.
Ironically, what paved the way for the hot mom phenom was the hot single woman phenom. Sex and the City, nominated for 24 Golden Globes and over 50 Emmys, was first to make us pay attention to the 30-, 40-somethings. And then it was a matter of time before we took notice of the wedded 30-, 40-somethings.
In an alternate universe, Susan Mayer is Carrie Bradshaw; Lynette Scavo is Miranda Hobbes; Bree Van de Kamp is Charlotte York; Gabrielle Solis Marquez and Edie Britt are Samantha Jones. Parallelisms unintended?
Sarah Jessica Parker, 42, has one son with her husband, actor Matthew Broderick. Kim Cattrall, 51, has been married thrice and is without kids. Cynthia Nixon, 41, has two children with an ex-husband and is in a relationship with a woman. Kristin Davis, 42, has never been married and is child-free; she has dated Alec Baldwin, Jeff Goldblum, and Liev Schreiber.
As sure as Finch has had sex with Stifler’s mom, a MILF (Mother I’d Like to Fuck), at the end of all three American Pie movies, hot moms seem to be thriving even in our teen-centric world. Good news for mid-aged celebrities, even better for real-life wives and mothers who are now reminded their beauty is both for the kitchen and the catchin’.
