Is it a 2007 Stanley Cup Finals between Ottawa Senators and Anaheim Ducks after the NHL Playoffs?

Well… We are HALFWAY there.

We’re done in the NHL Eastern Conference as the Ottawa Senators won it in five games, beating the high-scoring Buffalo Sabres in Game 5, 3-2, to win the seven-game Eastern Conference finals, 4-1. Looks like a Canadian team will finally win the Stanley Cup eh? (Or lose it to Americans yet again…)

Daniel Alfredsson was simply sensational for Ottawa in Game 5. He is captain and the longest serving player for the Senators, and perhaps REALLY wanting to put an end to a decade’s worth of frustration, he scored a clutch shot in overtime to bring the Ottawa Senators to the 2007 Stanley Cup finals for the first time in history.

teemu_selanne.jpgHis goal sealed a 3-2 win over the top-seeded Buffalo Sabres over the weekend, allowing Ottawa to win the Eastern Conference finals in five games.

‘’It’s kind of surreal right now,'’ Ottawa Senators team captain Daniel Alfredsson said. ‘’We worked very hard for this, but you never take anything for granted. We respect Buffalo as a team. I think they’ve had a hell of a year. But I think they ran into us at the wrong time.'’

Meanwhile, in the Western Conference, NOTHING is settled yet. Just when you thought the Anaheim Ducks were on the verge of losing Game 5 that might just lead to the end of their season, they came up with yet another dramatic comeback. (Just like in them Ducks movies…)

Teemu Selanne scored 11:57 into extra time after they stretched the Detroit Red Wings past regulation (thanks to Scott Niedermayer’s deflected shot that flew over Red Wings goalie Dominik Hasek…) to lead the Anaheim Ducks to a 2-1 win and take a commanding 3-2 lead in the NHL Western Conference finals.

How’s that for a Mighty Ducks movie?

Can the Detroit Red Wings regain control of the series in Game 6? Who will win the 2007 NHL Stanley Cup? Bodog has the odds.

Anaheim Mighty Ducks 8/5

Detroit Red Wings 3/1

Ottawa Senators 3/2
