Michael Rasmussen out of 2007 Tour De France

Just when we thought Denmark’s Michael Rasmussen will have a Tour De France title celebration come Sunday, they sent the guy packing.

Yep, you read it, Michael Rasmussen, the standings leader of the 2007 Tour De France, has been sent back home to Denmark after his Rabobank team took him out of this year’s Tour.

Michael Rasmussen was given a rather abrupt exit from the Tour De France after winning last Wednesday’s stage. Definitely not the reward he was looking for after winning a race eh? Well, he did violate some of the team’s internal rules (or so they say…) and with the way he intentionally misses his team’s drug tests, it was only a matter of time.

Rasmussen’s exile from the 2007 Tour De France was ordered by Rabobank’s sponsor, linking it to the lies Rasmussen gave to his team’s director about where he was when the team was conducting drug tests for its members.

Rasmussen missed two random drug tests dated May 8 and June 28. He claimed then that he was in Mexico but former cyclist Davide Cassani on Wednesday told Danmarks Radio, one of the radio stations in Denmark, that he saw the lying bastard in Italy last June.

What a lying sonuvabitch.

What a way to end the 2007 Tour De France with him sitting pretty at the top of the standigns eh? Yep, Rasmussen sure was set to win it all this year, if only he wasn’t such a liar and a junkie.

What does Rasmussen have to say about all these?

”Of course I’m clean,” Rasmussen said, after he was tested for illegal substances following Wednesday’s stage win. ”Like I said, I’ve been tested 17 times now in less than two weeks. Both the peloton and the public, they’re just taking their frustration out on me now. I mean, all I can say is that by now I had my test number 17 on this Tour, and all of those have come back negative. I don’t feel I can do anymore than that.”

Boo fucking hoo.
