Perfume in Baccarat Crystal Flask Relives How Marie Antoinette Smelled
If you want to smell like a queen and own a pricey baccarat cystal in the process, all you need to shell out is $450.
You may or may not remember that last month, a perfume called Sillage de la Reine - “In the Wake of the Queen” - an amber essence of jasmine, orange blossom, tuberose, iris, cedar and sandalwood was released commercially. This was an attempt to recreate a fragrance used by Marie Antoinette.
The deluxe version at 8.5 ounces bottled in Baccarat crystal flasks costs $10,500. At that price, the perfumes were reportedly kept in a locked vault and was only available for purchase via the Internet.
And here’s the juice, only 10 of it were being sold.
Pure collectors item, indeed. After all not everyone can afford this kind of luxury fit for royalties. Meaning it’s not for the masses to consume.
Even historians agree that the perfume has captured the real thing. Elizabeth de Feydeau, historian and professor at the Versailles School of Perfumes, was seaid to have discovered the authentic formulas used by the former queen’s perfumer Jean-Louis Fargeon.
The discovery led to queenly fortune for her, I supposed.
But now, in an attempt to bring the royal smell to a greater public, the perfume maker Francis Kurkdjian decides to release a crystal phial containing just under an ounce of Sillage de la Reine, which is available for $450 in the Chateau de Versailles gift shop.
Maybe you can wear it around your neck and be your lucky charm while playing Baccarat game at your favorite casino. Who knows, you opponents at the table will either find it too good and opulent they’ll turn their attention to you instead. Or you will definitely smell so bad prodding everyone to change tables.
Hey, at least they won’t decapitate you for stinking in this day and age.
