Which MLB Home Run Record was better? The 500th of Alex Rodriguez or the 755th of Barry Bonds?
Yep, it seems these guys had one special Saturday night to say the least eh?
In case you missed it, two of MLB baseball’s hottest sluggers reached a couple of milestones last Saturday as Alex Rodriguez became the youngest player ever to hit 500 home runs while Barry Bonds has finally tied Hank Aaron for the all-time MLB home run record after hitting No.755.
So which one was better last weekend? Well, one would normally say that the 755th home run was of course, better than No.500 and he or she can probably give you 255 reasons why.
Of course, being the deviant writer that I am, I see different but first, let’s take a look at the milestones reached over the weekend in the still ongoing 2007 MLB baseball season shall we?
Yep, San Francisco Giants superstar Barry Bonds finally hit the 755th home run of his career, joining Hank Aaron as MLB baseball’s all-time home run leader.
After weeks and weeks of anticipation, and a couple more weeks after that, Barry Bonds hit No.755 off San Diego Padres pitcher Clay Hensley, the first home run Bonds hit off him. For what it’s worth, Hensley also had a milestone for himself, sort of anyway, after becoming the 445th MLB baseball pitcher to surrender a home run to those steroid-powered arms. He he…
As for that ”other” milestone reached last weekend, New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez hit No.500 on the same day Bonds hit his 755th, becoming the youngest player ever to reach 500 home runs. And yep, it is because of that reason that makes A-Rod’s milestone better than Bonds.
The New York Yankees third baseman is the youngest player ever to reach 500 home runs, belting out No.500 eight days after his 32nd birthday. That’s two years and five months younger than Hank Aaron when he hit his 500th home run, three years and 10 months younger than Mark McGwire when he hit his 500th, and more importantly, FOUR YEARS and EIGHT MONTHS younger than Barry Bonds when he hit No.500.
THAT means, if there’s anyone more likely to surpass Bonds’ historic 755th home run last Saturday, it would have to be Alex Rodriguez. Heck, this guy can do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING until Labor Day 2009 and he’d still have more home runs than any of those guys at the same age.
A-Rod rules. Barry Bonds just sniffs dope.
Who will win the 2007 MLB World Series Championship? Bodog has the odds.
New York Yankees 7/2
Boston Red Sox 9/1
Detroit Tigers 5/1
