Olympic Games to heat up Beijing, China
Beijing, China was selected as hosts to the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in 2008.
The vote followed in line with the recommendation of the IOC Evaluation Commission that ”a Beijing Games would leave a unique legacy to China and to sports.
The Commission is confident that Beijing could organize an excellent Games.”
Having narrowly lost its bid to host the 2000 Summer games in Beijing, China excelled at the Olympics held in Sydney with 28 Gold medals and a total of 59 medals,
coming in third behind traditional powerhouses Russia and the USA.
