2008 NCAA College Football Week 14 Betting Picks
You think the festive mood is over? We still have teams in college football looking to still be in a festive mood over the weekend.
And if you didn’t get that, I’m referring to Week 14 of the 2008 NCAA college football season as the football week continues this Saturday with some huge games that have implications on this year’s race for the BCS bowl games.
First we have the Oklahoma Sooners trying to do what they can to reach the conference title game when they travel to Oklahoma State to face the Cowboys. Of course, the Cowboys would like nothing better than to spoil the grand plans of their archrivals.
The No.3 Oklahoma Sooners forged a
three-way tie atop the South Division with No.4 Texas and No.7 Texas Tech with a 65-21 dismantling of the Red Raiders last Saturday. The win moved Oklahoma up to third in the most recent BCS standings, but the Sooners remained behind the Longhorns, whom the Sooners lost to 45-35 on Oct. 11.
If all three teams win their respective games this weekend, the Big 12 will use the BCS standings to determine the South Division champion to play No.12 Missouri in the Big 12 title game. That would bode well for the Oklahoma Sooners, who already are ranked ahead of Texas in the Harris and coaches polls and would receive a larger boost to their strength of schedule if they beat No.11 Oklahoma State Cowboys on the road than the Longhorns would from defeating Texas A&M.
Next, we have the Florida Gators, who already have the SEC East wrapped up but are still playing to stay in the hunt for a spot in the BCS championship game this Saturday in Tallahassee. They are looking to make it five straight wins over the No.23 Florida State Seminoles, who need help to make the ACC title game.
In his last game before claiming the Heisman, Tim Tebow put on a show in Florida’s 45-12 thrashing of Florida State, throwing for 262 yards and three touchdowns while running for two more scores, even playing the second half with a broken right hand.
I won’t be surprised to see the same kind of performance from this guy.
And finally, we have the No.1 Alabama Crimson Tide looking to avoid a seventh consecutive loss to rival Auburn in the annual Iron Bowl game Saturday in Tuscaloosa.
A victory for Alabama this Saturday and another next week against No.2 Florida in Atlanta in the conference championship game will give the Crimson Tide a spot in the BCS title game, Jan.8 in Miami. Of course, the Auburn Tigers would love to spoil Alabama’s plans.
The Tide doesn’t have a simple road to Miami, especially this week. While Auburn has lost five of six in a disappointing season, the Tigers have won six in a row against their in-state rivals. Each game during that span has been decided by 10 points or less. Alabama, which leads the series 38-33-1, won 31-7 on Nov. 17, 2001 for its last victory over Auburn. The Tigers on the other hand, have won the last four at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
Alabama doesn’t need an upset this Saturday.
