Brett Favre officially retires from the Packers Thursday
Just when we thought he’ll stay THIS TIME, he came up with the decision to retire, fooling us yet again for the third straight year.
The ageless Brett Favre contemplating on retirement has always been a thing during the NFL offseason the last couple of years. We thought he was really calling it quits the first time only to come back for an encore performance. Then we thought he’ll finally walk away from the game the second time only to lead the Packers to the NFC championship game last season.
Coming into this one, we just know Favre will stay with the Green Bay Packers after the quite impressive season they just had. Then BANG, Favre announces he’ll be retiring, something many of us probably didn’t anticipate. Yes, Favre did it again.
The ”ultimate Packer” will be calling for a press conference this Thursday to ”officially” announce his retirement. Initially, he already told about this retirement thing to his head coach Mike McCarthy last Monday, making it ”official” when he talked to his general manager Ted Thompson Tuesday.
But as ya’ll know, nothing is official until Brett Favre talks to the media and his fans. We’ll have that this Thursday and for the Packers fans out there, let’s hope Mr. Favre gets a change of heart… No matter how many times he does it.
Green Bay Packers general manager Ted Thompson said Favre was, ”at peace” when he talked to him about his retirement las Tuesday. Of course, knowing how Favre tends to change his mind time and time again, saying ”Favre at peace” is like saying Britney Spears is still the hottest celebrity in Hollywood.
Favre’s former head coach, Mike Sherman, who now coaches the Texas A&M Aggies, claims that Favre will find it hard to stay away from football. Yes, he’s one of them folks who are still hoping Brett Favre plays forever.
Packers chairman Bob Harlan, on the other hand, is quite contented about Favre’s decision to walk away from the game on top after the successful campaign he had with the Packers last season.
”We’ve always seen a lot of great, great athletes who decide to try that one more year and it’s a disappointment,” Harlan said. ”I’ve always felt badly that Reggie came back and played that year at Carolina because he wasn’t the same Reggie White. And I think it’d be very sad to see that this wasn’t the same Brett Favre. He has been so magnificent. He went out on top; great season, great team record. It’s a great way for him to exit and add to his legacy.”
Some Packer fan will shoot this fool in the head with a shotgun.
