Can Celtics and Lakers finish the job in Game 6?
They have to, because there are people out there looking forward for these two teams to meet in what would be a retro series in the NBA finals.
And after both Boston and Los Angeles secured the top seed of their respective conferences in the 2008 NBA playoffs, it would be a shame if these two teams get booted out of the playoffs even before the conference championships right? Game 6 of their respective best-of-seven second round face-offs is this Friday and fans of these two teams are keeping their fingers crossed.
Let’s start with the team who can’t seem to win away from home, the Boston Celtics. It has been said that this team can win the championship without winning a single game on the road. After having the best record of the regular season, they don’t have to as long as they keep winning all of their home games in the playoffs with homecourt advantage throughout these postseason wars secured.
However, if these Celtics can’t win on the road, that means the Cleveland Cavaliers should pulverize them at the Quicken Loans Arena this Friday in Cleveland right? And if you let a team like that push you to a pivotal Game 7, facing a fired up LeBron James in a do-or-die game means bad news.
After all, watching LeBron James singlehandedly carry the Cavaliers past the Detroit Pistons last year in the playoffs should be reason enough to think twice before deciding to face LeBron again in big playoff games like a seventh game.
The fact of the matter is, Kevin Garnett and the rest of the Celtics HAVE TO WIN this one on Friday night. Letting it extend to the full seven games is just too risky for their title hopes.
Next, we have the Los Angeles Lakers who’ll be trying to win a game at the very place many teams have failed, the EnergySolutions Arena. The Lakers, with a win in that arena, will advance to the conference finals again since Shaq left for Miami. However, winning there is easier said than done.
Like Boston, the Utah Jazz have simply been phenomenal at home. The Jazz have secured the best win-loss record at home during the regular season and with them facing elimination on Friday, you can bet your ass EnergySolutions Arena will be rocking louder than ever come game time.
Both the Boston - Cleveland and Los Angeles - Utah playoff series wars have seen the home team win each game. And if this trend continues, a pivotal game 7 for each series is on.
