Can Roger Federer get back on top in 2008 U.S. Open?

He was once unbeatable.

But after losing in the last two Grand Slam finals in tennis, Federer found himself no longer the man to beat. The 2008 U.S. Open Championships is finally here and Federer will definitely look for redemption BIG TIME.

Of course, this is probably the perfect time to score a win over Roger Federer too. After dominating the tennis courts for all these years, father time may have finally caught up with the former world no.1.

For a guy who was once seen as the man to surpass the record set by Pete Sampras of 14 major titles, watching him lose two straight Grand Slam final matches was unthinkable.

Roger FedererHe was dominating the sport for FOUR FREAKIN’ YEARS people, that includes winning three Grand Slams in three of the four previous years, but after he relinquished his world no.1 spot to clay court king Rafael Nadal, have we seen the last of Federer’s glory days?

Federer and Nadal have been going at it for years with Federer winning everything other than that one single tournament on clay. When Nadal finally beat Federer for a Grand Slam OTHER than clay, that being the 2008 Wimbledon Championships a few months ago, something big happened.

Not only has Nadal finally proved that he can beat Federer on any surface, he has taken the top spot in tennis, something Federer has been sitting on the last four years. Is Federer’s time on top over? Is the notorious ‘’changing of the guard'’ finally happening in tennis?

Not quite. It simply means, Federer can’t win it all.

And although I’m not a big fan of Roger Federer myself, betting against him on Tuesday against some guy named Mazimo in the tournament opener is STILL a bad idea. He is still coming into the 2008 United States Open Tennis Championships as the defending world champion. It’s here where he won his last Grand Slam and you can bet your ass he’ll be itching to have another, which would be his first Grand Slam of 2008.

Would it put your mind at ease if you knew Federer is still a four-time U.S. Open champ? I know it will.
