Chad Johnson, happy about his fucked up Bengals
Why?!?
My sentiments exactly. With Cincinnati’s hopes for a Super Bowl run virtually over at the midpoint mark of the 2008-09 NFL football season, how in the hell can Chad Johnson, the team’s premiere wide receiver, be happy about all this shit?
Well, if you’re a fan of the struggling Cincinnati Bengals expecting some sense of urgency from your team’s No.1 guy than just being this cheerful guy happy about life, you can blame Donovan McNabb for taking away whatever drive that’s left in your boy.
Apparently, it was Donovan McNabb who got Johnson this new screwed up perspective in life.
Although this new perspective of Johnson’s is just fine and dandy if you’re working for the World Health Organization or something, it just doesn’t cut it if you’re a pro football player.
”I blew his phone up,” Ocho Cinco Chad Johnson (we don’t know what to call him anymore after he legally changed his name to Ocho Cinco…) said. ”Donovan was a big influence. [He] really is one of the reasons why I really turned myself around and looked at my situation as more of a positive outlook and just thinking about all the people that would love to play this game, you know?”
”He took me in that direction, instead of thinking about, ‘Oh, I’m tired of losing and I don’t want to be here anymore,’ but just thinking about, ‘Man, a lot of people wish they were in your shoes just to have the ability to play in the NFL.’ That kind of turned me around, and that’s why I’ve been as positive as I have been this year, and even though we’re losing, man, I’ve just been plugging away.”
And guess what, McNabb wasn’t the only one at fault for turning Chad Johnson into a wimp.
Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis was also guilty for what Johnson has become. Before Johnson legally changed his name to Ocho Cino, he was asking the Bengals to trade him and Lewis was there counseling him spiritually, of all things.
”What I told him is just whatever you have going on, think of God,” Lewis told reporters at the time. ”Let God deal with that. Just understand that you’re a role model for so many people. So many young kids want to be in the position you’re in. They want to follow Chad Johnson.”
”You don’t care about wins and losses when it comes down to brotherhood and competition,” Lewis added. ”That’s why I love when we play against Chad Johnson and play against those guys like that, because you’re going to get their best, and that’s why you play the game.”
