Delaying the start date of the 2008 WSOP Final Table
Probably to stir up hype, organizers of the WSOP opted to delay the start date of the 2008 WSOP Main Event final table.
You read it people, just like the Super Bowl, the championship table will be delayed once the 2008 World Series of Poker gets going on May 30. This will give poker players the opportunity to research the competition, probably increasing the skill level of the very table where you can win that WSOP bracelet.
STILL, while this break will lead to a lot of coaching and research on the tendencies of each poker player sitting around the final table, it still comes down to the basics and that’s the need to make educated decisions for a whole lot of cash.
‘’This will make for a different dynamic at the final table,'’ Daniel Negreanu, a member of the Players Advisory Council, said.
‘’You’re going to see some really kind of more sophisticated play. They’re going to watch the ESPN broadcasts and go, ‘Oh, did you notice that? When he does this, he’s bluffing.’ Great players and amateurs alike will have an opportunity to really devise schemes and plans for how they’re going to play.'’
The Players Advisory Council was the one that approved this change in the 2008 WSOP poker tournament.
Instigators of the said change are hoping that the delay will intrigue more people into watching the WSOP tournament. The more people watch it, the more people will join. They are also hoping that the delay will develop a fan base for each poker player who’ll made it into the final table since people will know who’ll be in it before the final game gets going.
‘’If it works, the industry as whole will benefit immensely,'’ says NBC’s ‘’Poker After Dark'’ producer Mori Eskandani.
Bluff magazine co-owner Eddie Kleid agrees as well. ‘’It builds up anticipation, builds up personalities, what happens today with a large field, you get one to two name players and the other guys you know nothing about. Now, you can promote and create the personalities.'’
