Detroit Pistons bitch-slap the Philadelphia 76ers by as many as 17 points in the 2008 NBA Playoffs
Yup, the Pistons are finally in playoff mode and Piston fans like me can probably breathe a sign of relief until the next round comes.
The first round of the 2008 NBA playoffs is heating up with the higher seeds winning over their ‘’lesser-seeded'’ counterparts to kick off their respective postseason campaigns. That’s except the no.2 seeded team from Detroit of course. The 76ers shocked the world back in Game 1 when they came up with a 90-86 win over the Pistons in Detroit. And boy, what a shocker that was indeed.
That’s probably a distant memory now as the Detroit Pistons were successful in sending a message to the rest of the upstart Sixers. After beating Philadelphia in convincing fashion, winning 105-88 in Game 2, it’s quite clear that the Pistons are finally ready for the playoffs and a team like the 76ers should have no business beating them on the hardwood.
With the Philadelphia 76ers losing to the Pistons in Game 2, the series is now tied at one game apiece as this best-of-seven first round face-off shifts to Philadelphia for Game 3 on Friday night.
Unlike the first game, Richard Hamilton and the rest of the Pistons simply refused to let the 76ers rally to get back in Game 2. After blowing a 15-point lead midway through the third quarter in Game 1 en route to their shocking loss to Philly, the Pistons made sure that thing won’t happen for the second straight game.
It was a balanced attack as usual for Detroit with four of its starters dropping double-digits against Philly. Hamilton led the way with 20 points while Tayshaun Prince, Antonio McDyess and my boy Rasheed Wallace dropped 16 points each.
Pistons guard Rodney Stuckey again led the Pistons bench, (dubbed for some reason as the Zoo Crew…) scoring 12 points in 28 minutes of play.
Sure, 76ers fans can probably claim that their team simply did what they were supposed to do and that’s steal homecourt, but the fact of the matter is, the Pistons have already made their way back to playoff form and when that happens, all bets are off.
