Donovan McNabb to start for the Eagles on Thanksgiving

That’s despite playing like a jackass that got his ass benched at halftime last Sunday in a 36-7 loss to Baltimore.

After a promising start to the 2008-09 NFL football season, problems have once again started to ground the Eagles heading to the final stretch of the football year. And after all their problems at quarterback the last few years, guess what, they’re having problems with the QB position again.

For what it’s worth, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb is healthy for the first time in quite a while. With McNabb back behind center, the Eagles looked like they’re finally ready to reclaim their spot atop the NFC since a particular wide receiver defected to Dallas. Well, at least that’s what they looked like during the first few weeks of the season anyway.

Donovan McNabbBut during the last three weeks, the Philadelphia Eagles can’t seem to get it going on the field. After three weeks, the Eagles lost two and let the lowly Bengals tie them in overtime. And for a team that’s trying to keep up with the rest of the NFC East, again arguably the best division in pro sports, what the Eagles have done lately is simply unacceptable.

And while ‘’unacceptable'’ is more than enough, McNabb did more than that last Sunday.

McNabb was pulled from a game for the first time in his career after two dismal quarters against the Ravens over the weekend. After two interceptions thrown and a fumble, Eagles head coach Andy Reid just couldn’t help it anymore but to bench the guy he had at QB since arriving here in Philly.

And while he opted to go with a quarterback other than McNabb last Sunday, (that’s backup quarterback Kevin Kolb by the way…) Reid already announced that he will still start McNabb this Thanksgiving.

That’s when the Eagles host the high-flying Arizona Cardinals. YIKES!

But after such a horrendous first half last Sunday against the Ravens, is starting McNabb the right way to go? Reid certainly believes so.

‘’Donovan is the quarterback. I don’t want to leave here until you understand that,'’ Eagles coach Andy Reid emphasized at a news conference. ‘’Donovan is the quarterback for this football team.'’ ‘’Sometimes you have to step back to step forward in a positive way and Donovan will do that. This has nothing to do with Kolb’s performance or Donovan’s performance.'’
