Get used to this Green Bay: Rodgers Solid, Packers lose
You read it people, Aaron Rodgers finally had his first NFL game as a starter for the Packers.
With the 2008-09 NFL football season just around the corner, Packer fans should be happy to know that the guy who replaced Brett Favre is a solid young NFL quarterback.
The problem is, their team lost. Aaron Rodgers stepped up to the plate as the Packers’ starting quarterback, providing a few highlights that include a pair of scoring drives at Lambeau Field. Unfortunately, they lost to the Cincinnati Bengals 20-17. He was solid indeed but it wasn’t enough to give Green Bay a win.
The Green Bay Packers CAN’T WIN without Favre and we saw that in Rodgers’ first NFL game as the Packers’ starting quarterback. If this was a precursor of things to come for Green Bay, then I reckon trading one of the game’s greatest football players away to New York City was one dumb idea.
For what it’s worth, Rodgers showed some signs that he has what it takes to lead the Packers after Brett Favre. After spending most of the last three seasons holding a clipboard, Rodgers showed no signs of nerves in his first game out of Favre’s shadow.
Rodgers completed nine out of 15 passes for 117 yards, scoring a touchdown while only giving up one interception.
He could’ve had another one, unfortunately, for some reason, he was unable to connect with a wide open James Jones. He came up with a 30-yard pass to Ruyell Martin afterwards on third-and-2 to set up kicker Mason Crosby for a 37-yard field goal.
Were you convinced that Aaron Rodgers may have what it takes to lead the Packers offense in the coming season? I’m not.

Umm… what game was it you were watching? When Rodgers left at the end of the 1st quarter, the score was 10-0, Packers. How is that losing? He can’t be blamed for the way Brohm and Flynn played.
Plug your brain back in.

Who said I was blaming Rodgers for the loss? All I said was the Packers can’t win without Favre. Hell, I even agreed that Rodgers was solid, UNFORTUNATELY for them, it wasn’t enough for the win.
And even though the score WAS 10-0 when he left, he could’ve added more to that lead when he could’ve had a rather easy connection with a WIDE OPEN James Jones. Tsk tsk…
Oh yeah, I unplugged my brain to put in yours. You need it.

Well, let’s see: you say they can’t win without Favre. They came in without 7 starters and put up a 10-0 first quarter. Then most of the starters left the field. The Bengals left their first string in through the second quarter and many first stringers into the third. Their starters came back against a bunch of scrubs with a rookie seeing his first pro opponents. And you’re citing the Bengal’s scoring against our second and 3rd string players as evidence that the Packers can’t win without #4? Don’t make me laugh. Leave the starters for the Packers in and the score extrapolates to 40-0. The Bengals didn’t even get a first down until their 4th series, and that with both starting corners and interior linemen out for the Pack. Some defeat they inflicted on Green Bay.

Okay okay, FINE, anybody is entitled to his own opinion I guess but since it’s only the preseason, I guess we’ll find out soon enough if the Packers can really win without Favre eh?
