Iverson to make his Pistons debut in New Jersey?

It’s this Friday and being a Piston fan like myself, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the former league MVP finally plays for my team.

And in case you’ve been living under a rock, the Pistons and the Nuggets engineered the first blockbuster trade of the 2008-09 NBA basketball season after the Pistons traded Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess to the Nuggets for Allen Iverson.

And since both Billups and McDyess hasn’t even started taking their physicals yet, Allen Iverson can’t suit up for his new team until they do and complete it since the NBA has this rule that players who were traded between two teams will OFFICIALLY be available for their new teams at the same time.

That means, the Detroit Pistons can’t Allen Iversontake advantage of having a player like Allen Iverson on the court yet until their former players in Denver complete the mandatory physical.

And since Denver Nuggets head coach George Karl already said that their new players will be taking their physicals some time this week, Iverson could be playing for the Pistons in New Jersey against the Nets.

Until then, we will continue to hope that nabbing Iverson was the right way to go for the 313 because if it all explodes on Joe Dumars’ face, letting a guy like Chauncey Billups go would be the worst thing he has done since drafting Darko Milicic right after LeBron James was drafted.

As far as Iverson is concerned, the former league MVP is hoping that Detroit is a place where he can finally win that elusive NBA championship ring.

‘’I am starting to feel like a journeyman,'’ Allen Iverson joked, the Pistons being just his third team in 13 years. ‘’Obviously I want to get somewhere for the latter part of my career and be stable.'’

‘’I want to finish my career mainly at a spot where I can be happy first, and have a chance to win a championship. Hopefully, everything will work out and I can stay right where I’m at. Honestly, I know with the personnel that’s here and the organization, with the way they run everything first-class, I am going to have an opportunity to win a championship.'’

‘’I have a big-time resume, but there is a big-time hole in it.'’
