seth-edward-oneal.jpgWe have a new home run king people.

And although this entire thing barely added a little excitement to the somewhat boring 2008 MLB baseball season, Ken Griffey Jr. sending that ball flying for the 609th time was still a pretty sight to say the least.

You read it, Ken Griffey Jr., now playing for the Chicago White Sox, blasted home run no. 609 of his career to lead his team past the Seattle Mariners 15-3. It was his first home run for his new team and you can bet your ass White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen was glad to made the deal that landed him this guy.

After Ken Griffey Jr. hit home run no.609, the 13-time All-Star goes into a tie with Sammy Sosa for 5th in the all-time list for home runs made in a Ken Griffey Jr. hits home run no.609career. For Griffey, finding himself tied with Sosa has a weird feeling to it. How? Read on.

‘’It’s weird,'’ Ken Griffey Jr. said. ‘’I've watched Sammy throughout the years. Tying him, it’s OK, I guess.'’

What’s even weirder is the fact that both guys did this home run record thing playing for Chicago. Sammy Sosa did most of his home run records playing for the Chicago Cubs. A few years later, Ken Griffey Jr. ties him while playing for the Chicago White Sox.

Before his homer no.609, Griffey was in a slump, going 46 at-bats without hitting a home run whatsoever for the Chicago White Sox. After coming up with the record-tying one Wednesday, I guess that’s one way to end any kind of slump eh?

‘’I don’t really worry about that,'’ Griffey said. ‘’Everybody else does. I’m more concerned about getting hits and getting on base. You get hits and home runs happen. But it is good to get the first one at home.'’

The Chicago White Sox jumped on the Mariners right from the get-go, scoring six quick runs at the bottom of the very first inning. The White Sox added a couple more in the second before putting Seattle away after coming up with four more runs in the fifth en route to the 15-3 win.
