Laurence Maroney, Patriots X-Factor at Super Bowl XLII

Why? Simple. That Patriots are THAT good already by simply passing the ball. Imagine how good will these guys be if they decide to run with it too.

Running backs probably don’t like playing with quarterbacks like Peyton Manning or Super Bowl - bound Tom Brady. Hell, those two guys are so good that they can win games all by themselves without handing the ball off to their backs. The Patriots did just that, earning their Super Bowl XLII ticket without any running game whatsoever. Imagine if they had one.

During the regular season, Tom Brady and the rest of the New England Patriots set new NFL records in touchdowns through the passing game. Brady had 50 to earn him the quarterback TD record in a single season. Randy Moss on the other hand, with Brady always finding him in the endzone, set Laurence Maroneyan NFL record too for most TDs by a wideout in one year.

But how good will the Patriots be if they complimented that passing game with the run? BETTER. And yes, the New York Giants defense probably has to call on the national guard to stop the Patriots from scoring this Sunday.

During the Pats’ two playoff games, running back Laurence Maroney ran for over 100 rushing yards. He got 122 against Jacksonville and 122 again the following week against San Diego. Both the Jags and the Chargers had a decent chance in shocking the undefeated New England Patriots but because of Laurence Maroney, both teams had no answer to the Patriots’ sudden running attack.

I don’t know what’s with the postseason that got Mr. Maroney so fired up.

In the regular season games Laurence Maroney played, he had only two 20 or more rushing attempts out of 13 contests. His highest tally was against the New York Jets in Week 15, attempting for 26. In his last regular season game, Maroney got 19 rushing attempts against the Giants defense that he’ll be facing this Sunday.

So will we see the regular season Laurence Maroney or the postseason monster back that doomed both the Jaguars and the Chargers? It’s for a Super Bowl championship ring people and you can expect Maroney to give it all. Yes, the guy will go over 20 attempts against the Giants defense.
