Local Hero Lewis Hamilton wins 2008 F1 British GP

Now Lewis Hamilton only has one more goal to accomplish in his still young F1 career, a world championship.

After a somewhat slow start to the 2008 F1 season, Lewis Hamilton finally got back in winning form last Sunday after earning a victory right in front of his home fans in Great Britain.

You read it, the young British sensation lived up to the hype coming to the 2008 F1 British Grand Prix by dominating the rest of the field on his way to a rather easy win. It was his third win of the season and after all the turmoil that plagued the McLaren - Mercedes driver, he finds himself right in the middle of a three-way tie for the drivers’ championship lead.

Lewis HamiltonThis win was special for Lewis Hamilton too. You see, he only had THREE THINGS he wanted to accomplish in his still young career, win Monaco, (which he did this season…) win his home grand prix, (he did that already last Sunday…) and last but not the least, win the world title.

Of course, winning the championship is easier said than done, we all saw that last season when Kimi Raikkonen literally stole the title away from then championship leader Lewis Hamilton, and then Hamilton’s McLaren teammate Fernando Alonso, but after coming back on top, he now has a clearer shot of doing it all again compared to where he was a few weeks ago.

Lewis Hamilton is in a three-way tie with Ferrari drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa, all with 48 points, to lead the drivers championship standings.

‘’It is by far the best victory I’ve ever had,'’ Lewis Hamilton said. ‘’The conditions were bad and as I was driving I thought, ‘If I win this, it will be the best race I’ve ever done’. On my last lap, I could see the crowd starting to rise to their feet, and I was just praying, praying, praying I could get the car round.'’

Oh, he did more than just turn the car around at Silverstone. Hell, he turned the car around the rest of the field, lapping every single guy unfortunate enough to be in front of the rampaging McLaren. When he lapped world champions Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso, you just knew then it was over.

Next stop for Hamilton is the 2008 F1 German Grand Prix, can Hamilton follow up on his home win? There’s only one way to find out.
