Oakland Raiders still Keepin’ Kiffin as their Head Coach
I don’t know how much time can Kiffin’s win over the Chiefs in Week 2 can buy him.
But since Kiffin gave his boss, Raiders owner Al Davis, a 23-8 win over their hated rivals from Kansas City, Kiffin STILL is the head coach of the Oakland Raiders at this point of the 2008-09 NFL football season.
That’s despite failing to take advantage of what was a very winnable game against the Buffalo Bills last Sunday, losing by just a point, 24-23. The Oakland Raiders have state rivals, the San Diego Chargers, visiting them next Sunday and Lane Kiffin, for what it’s worth, is confident he’ll still be calling the shots from the sidelines then.
‘’This seems to be a common
question here every day,'’ Lane Kiffin said, referring to the question if he’ll still have a job in Oakland after only three weeks into the season.
‘’I'm going to kind of put it this way: Until I am told by Al Davis that I’m not the head coach here anymore, we’re going to keep plugging away the same way we have been. So I have not been told by Al Davis that I am not the head coach. Until he tells me directly, we’ll keep plugging away.'’
Rumors about the Raiders on the verge of firing Kiffin surfaced a day before they played the Kansas City Chiefs. It is well documented that Kansas City is the very team Al Davis definitely doesn’t want to lose to. There were even rumors still, claiming that if Kiffin lost to the Chiefs, it would’ve cost him his job as well.
Fortunately, the Raiders won. Unfortunately, the rumors about him getting fired from Oakland are still there.
‘’I have not had a conversation with him about it, nor has he gotten in touch with me,'’ Kiffin said of Davis. ‘’So I can’t worry about what other people say. If we believed everything people said around here, we would be in a lot of trouble.'’
