San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker out for a month

It seems the problems just keep on piling up for the Spurs these days huh?

The Spurs have somewhat a slow start to the 2008-09 NBA basketball season. They have lost four of their last five games with their only win coming from a thrilling double overtime 129-125 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Yes, the San Antonio Spurs were at a dismal 0-3 stand then coming to Minnesota and Tony Parker had no plans of losing his fourth straight game. How bad did he wanted that win? He scored a career-high 55 points, including a 20-footer at the buzzer to force a second overtime.

Thanks to the young Frenchman, Peter Parkerthe Spurs were able to have their first win of the season under their belt but now that the guy who made that possible is now out for a month because of a sprained left ankle, the Spurs would have to look elsewhere for some much needed help.

With Tony Parker out for a month, the Spurs will either have rookie George Hill or 12-year veteran Jacque Vaughn replacing him at the point. Too bad huh? Parker was second to LeBron James in scoring, averaging 27.4 points per game this season and this injury only adds even more problems to what is turning out to be a fucked up start in San Antonio.

The Spurs have the New York Knicks on Tuesday as they try to avoid a 1-5 start. The last tie the Spurs started the season at 1-5, it was 1996, when nobody even heard of a Tony Parker.

With Parker out, San Antonio’s explosive backcourt of Parker and Manu Ginobili has now been shelved. And like Parker, Manu is also having some problems with his ankle, having undergone ankle surgery that will keep him out until December.

For now, George Hill and Jacque Vaughn would have to pick up the slack.

George Hill has played 35 minutes since being drafted 26th overall out of Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis. The 33-year-old Jacque Vaughn was inactive, though no injury was listed.
