Teams that made right moves in the 2008 NFL Draft
Can you tell how bad we want football to return already?
Yep, with still more than a few months before the brand new 2008-09 NFL football season begins, we can’t seem to stop talking, or in this case, writing about football at tis point of the calendar year.
And with the 2008 NFL Draft completed just recently, you can bet your ass that football is on our minds once again. With that said, let’s take a look at some of the best moves these NFL teams just made to tweak their roster and hopefully, that’ll be enough for a Super Bowl ring in Tampa next year.
Let’s kick things off with them Cowboys. The Dallas Cowboys already have a potent offense with the combination of quarterback Tony Romo and wideout Terrell Owens. That tandem made the Cowboys passing game one of the best in the NFL.
Their running game is not bad either. Marion Barber has become one of the best backs in football last season. The problem is, that running game disappears every single time Barber comes off the field. Sure, Julius Jones is still a serviceable guy but when he goes up against teams like the Steelers or the Ravens, having Julius Jones there just doesn’t work.
After drafting Felix Jones, the Dallas Cowboys have probably fixed this problem. He is fast and should be comfortable playing backup to Marion Barber after he became one in Arkansas splitting minutes with Arkansas Razorbacks superstar Darren McFadden.
This new Barber - Jones combination should be perfect for the Dallas Cowboys compared to the first Barber - Jones tandem they had with Julius.
Another team that probably made the right move in the recently held NFL Draft is the team dubbed as the Steel Curtain, the Pittsburgh Steelers. Ben Roethlisberger has been asking for a big wideout weeks after they were booted out of the playoffs by Jacksonville.
The young Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback saw what it can do to Tom Brady when the New England Patriots went through the regular season undefeated while having a tall wideout in Randy Moss.
With the Steelers drafting the 6-4, 215 pound Limas Sweed, the Steelers just gave Roethlisberger what he wanted.
Sweed has the size and speed to make his quarterback happy. It also helps that Sweed can learn from Hines Ward and grow with blossoming third-year wideout Santonio Holmes. Roethlisberger loved throwing to Plaxico Burress before the wideout left to join the Super Bowl champions New York Giants back in 2005.
It shouldn’t take long for Ben Roethlisberger to have the same affection for Sweed.
