Texas A&M Aggies play the No.2 Texas Longhorns in College Football’s edition of a Thanksgiving Special
I guess you’ll have all the football action you can handle this Thanksgiving huh?
While pro football already has a whopping triple-header for you for Thanksgiving, the 2008 NCAA college football season has come up with their own brand of football action that can keep up with what its professional counterpart will bring to you on turkey night.
The Texas A&M Aggies and the No.2 Texas Longhorns will renew their rivalry on the college gridiron on Thanksgiving night. The Longhorns are looking for a trip to the BCS national title game for the second time in four years, a win over their state-rivals will boost their chances of landing a BCS spot for sure.
The 10-1 Texas Longhorns, currently second
in the BCS standings, is one of three teams atop the Big 12 South with identical overall and conference records. Like Oklahoma and Texas Tech, the ‘Horns have spent time as odds-on favorites to make the national championship game, but the three teams have beaten each other up in conference play to hurt their respective chances for a BCS slot come January.
Texas knocked the Sooners out of the top spot in the AP poll Oct. 11 before dropping out of first place with a loss to the Red Raiders three weeks later. Texas Tech was No.2 in the AP poll before falling to Oklahoma on Saturday.
And in case you didn’t get that, yes, the college football season has been that crazy.
‘’You’ve got to give the BCS credit,'’ Texas Longhorns head coach Mack Brown said, he has long supported a playoff in favor of the current system. ‘’They’ve got more talk about college football than ever before.'’
Brown, however, insisted that he didn’t want to talk much about the BCS for fear of letting it get in the way of Thursday’s game. With a loss to the Texas A&M Aggies, the Longhorns can forget about the BCS altogether.
Texas A&M snapped a six-game losing streak in the series by topping then 11th-ranked Texas 12-7 in Austin back in 2006, knocking the Longhorns out of the Big 12 title game. The Aggies accomplished the same feat by upsetting the 13th-ranked Longhorns 38-30 last Nov. 23.
Are we in for another upset this Thanksgiving? Not if you have a big-ass turkey on top of the dinner table.
