The 2008 Chase for the Sprint Cup in NASCAR tightens up the way your girlfriend obviously can’t

The final twelve drivers are feeling the pressure now.

Twelve drivers made the 2008 NASCAR Chase for the Sprint Cup, and while the field tightens up, anyone STILL has a shot at the cup.

Here is how they have stacked up. Carl Edwards finds himself at the top of the standings with 5390 points. He came with two strong Chase finishes. Edwards has a strong intermediate speedway program and will continue to be a factor in this points battle.

After all, he does have 13 top fives and 21 top 10s. He also finished second to Jimmie Johnson at the Brickyard. Add to that, Edwards Greg Bifflewas also second to Kyle Busch at Darlington, Dover and the second Daytona race. If Edwards can get pass Martinsville and Talladega without bad finishes, then Edwards might find his way to the 2008 Championship.

Following at the second and third spot respectively are NASCAR drivers Jimmie Johnson and Greg Biffle who trails the current leader Carl Edwards by 10 points.

Jimmie Johnson comes into the 2008 Chase for the Cup as the two-time defending Sprint Cup Champion. Johnson has posted two strong Chase finishes and remains a strong contender to win his third consecutive Championship here in 2008.

Meanwhile, with consecutive wins in New Hampshire and Dover, Greg Biffle climbed up the ladder and has a fighting chance to be the points leader when NASCAR resumes in Kansas.

Next, we have Jeff Burton. Trailing by 82 points, Burton looks good for Race 29. He is one of the circuit’s most consistent drivers entering the Chase where he ran within the top 15 through the first 17 races, but had an average finish of 20th over his last nine starts before the Chase, including just two top 10s which came at the Brickyard and Richmond.

He started 2008 with 14 consecutive finishes of 13th or better. Since then his average has slipped including terrible finishes in Daytona and Bristol although it is still a bad decision on your part if you decide to bet against this guy.
