The 2008 MLB All-Star Game is ON! Yay!

Of course, with baseball still as boring as it is, you just know that title has sarcasm written all over it.

But still, that won’t stop baseball fans from watching the 2008 MLB All-Star Game featuring the best baseball players we have in the world today. Divided by two conferences, the National League and the American League, the best players in each conference will play against each other to determine just which division is better.

Dubbed as the 79th Midsummer Classic, this year’s All-Star game will be played at Yankee Stadium to honor the ballpark before it undergoes renovation. This is the highlight of the MLB All-Star weekend, kick started last Sunday with the XM All Star Futures Game followed by the State Farm Home Derby Monday.

2008 MLB All-Star GameFans and managers have decided who from each conference are going to play. So who were chosen?

Starting with the National League starters, three were selected from the Chicago Cubs; C Geovany Soto, OF Alfonso Soriano and OF Kosuke Fukudome. 1B Lance Berkman of the Houston Astros will join them while 2B Chase Utley of the Philadelphia Phillies, 3B Chipper Jones of the Atlanta Braves, SS Hanley Ramirez of the Florida Marlins and OF Ryan Braun of the Milwaukee Brewers were also selected.

On the other side, the American League starters consist of four players from the defending MLB World Series champions, Boston Red Sox. Surprised? You shouldn’t be. Because in case you were living under a rock lately, the Boston area just became the mecca of sports this year.

1B Kevin Youkilis, 2B Dustin Pedroia, OF Manny Ramirez and DH David Ortiz were all chosen from the Red Sox. That should provide the AL team with enough firepower already to win this Tuesday quite convincingly.

Meanwhile, Boston’s rivals, the New York Yankees, also have their fair share of talents in the All-Star game.

SS Derek Jeter and 3B Alex Rodriguez were chosen to play in front of their home fans. C Joe Mauer of the Minnesota Twins, OF Josh Hamilton of the Texas Rangers and OF Ichiro Suzuki of the Seattle Mariners complete the AL starting lineup.
