The Giants didn’t really need Jeremy Shockey to win a title, that’s why they traded him to the Saints
After all, who would pass on the opportunity to get rid of a guy who has been nothing more but cancer to your organization?
You read it people, Jeremy Shockey won’t be suiting up for the defending Super Bowl champions, New York Giants, in the coming 2008-09 NFL football season. After proving that they didn’t need the guy anyway, beating then undefeated New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII WITHOUT the troublesome tight end, they have finally decided to trade him away.
Shockey’s displeasure with the New York Giants has been very well documented the last few years. Two years ago, Shockey was blaming everybody in the Giants locker room for the losing season they’ve been having.
Hell, Jeremy Shockey was STILL playing the blame game when the Giants had their somewhat slow start last season. And when the injury bug finally bit him hard in the ass, for some reason, his team started winning WITHOUT him. Hmm…
Shockey was then relegated to a box watching his team surprise the world by beating the team that was suppose to finish the season undefeated with a Super Bowl trophy. He had no idea what his team has in store for him next after proving that they don’t need his overpaid, troublesome ass.
The Giants traded him to the New Orleans Saints.
‘’Jeremy brought great energy to the game every time he stepped on the field,'’ New York Giants team president John Mara said. ‘’He had a close relationship with my father from the time we drafted him, and I had a couple of long conversations with Jeremy this spring and summer. From those conversations, it was apparent to me that a fresh start was the best thing for us and for Jeremy.'’
Giants coach Tom Coughlin, who had his fair share of run-ins with his tight end, is probably having the happiest days of his NFL career.
The Giants will receive two draft picks from the New Orleans Saints, a second rounder and another in the fifth round in 2009.
