The Kansas Jayhawks came out of the NCAA Final Four to win the 2008 NCAA College Basketball Title
And while we’re still reeling over UNC’s demise, we can’t help but to be happy for Kansas and the way they came back in overtime to win it all.
Wow. Now that’s the way to culminate what has been a crazy college basketball season eh? The Kansas Jayhawks escaped in a pulsating win against the Memphis Tigers 75-68 in overtime to win the 2008 March Madness bracket tournament Monday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
Kansas Jayhawks star Mario Chalmers buried a three-pointer with 2.1 seconds left in regulation to help his team push the game into overtime after being down nine with 2:12 left.
The Memphis Tigers left the door open by missing FOUR FREAKING free throws down the stretch. And in a game where every point counted, those four free throws the Tigers missed definitely was the deciding factor for their rather humiliating demise. (I mean, c’mon, they were leading by nine points in the final two minutes for crying out loud…)
‘’We got the ball in our most clutch player’s hands, and he delivered,'’ Kansas Jayhawks coach Bill Self said of Mario Chalmers’ three-pointer that pushed the game into overtime.
The win gave the Jayhawks its first NCAA college basketball championship title since 1988, when Danny Manning, now an assistant coach for the Jayhawks, led them to an upset of the Oklahoma Sooners.
‘’I had a good look at it,'’ Mario Chalmers said. ‘’When it left my hands it felt like it was good, and it just went in.'’ Mario Chalmers was named the most outstanding player for the 2008 NCAA college basketball championship game.
The Memphis Tigers were clearly exhausted and could not pull any closer than three points the rest of the way. Yep, they got tired missing all them free throws.
Ugh.
