The New York Giants are in Control of the NFC
Yes, after last Sunday night’s win over the Eagles, you should be aware of that by now.
After ten weeks into the 2008-09 NFL football season, the New York Giants are running away from the competition with a remarkable 8-1 record. The 9-0 Titans are the only team better at this point but since the Titans are not playing within the NFC East, arguably the best division not only in pro football but professional sports, I would have to attest that the Giants are the team to beat.
The New York Giants showed just how dominant they can be last Sunday night when they went up against their NFC East rivals, Philadelphia Eagles. And although the final score of 36-31 was too close for comfort, the Giants were still the more dominant team since the 31 points the Eagles put up was more of the Giants’ doing than the birds.’
The Giants let the Philadelphia Eagles score the first touchdown of the game, thanks to an early turnover New York committed. The Giants then scored the next 17 points to stay ahead of the Eagles after the first quarter.
New York then let the Eagles find their way back into the game, thanks to a fumble committed by Brandon Jacobs before finally shutting the door closed on Philadelphia in the final stages of the contest.
If it wasn’t for New York’s costly turnovers, they could’ve won this one handily. But since they were playing an NFC East rival, and probably wanting to prove that their division is simply the best in pro sports these days, they didn’t want to beat the Eagles that bad.
So how dominant were the Giants last Sunday night?
The New York Giants outgained Philadelphia 244 to 126, in the very first half of the game. And yeah, there’s Brandon Jacobs, one of the most punishing rushers in the game today. He punishes defenders by running through them on the ground like a truck on a Toyota. He fumbled the football when he decided, for some reason, to get off the ground. Why?
Because he’s playing against an NFC East rival. And in case you didn’t get that, yes, the Giants were just toying with Philly.
