And although we are still a few months away from the NBA, the 2008-09 NFL football season is already here and here I am still writing about another O’Neal who just got lucky somebody was kind enough to give him another shot.

In this case, it’s former Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Deltha O’Neal, who was just signed by the New England Patriots in hopes of having yet another record-breaking campaign this season.

The New England Patriots have a knack for knowing who to sign even before the players they wanna’ get are released from their respective teams. And since Patriots head coach Bill Belichick usually knows who will land on the waiver wire, the Patriots usually get what they want.

Turns out that Belichick is a huge fan of Deltha O’Neal and when the opportunity to land the guy came, he wasted no time in waving a whole lot of money in front of him just to make him sign on that dotted line.

‘’We played him last year in Cincinnati and I did some work on him going into that game,'’ New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said of O’Neal. ‘’He is a very athletic corner, good ball skills, pretty big guy that goes up and plays a lot of press coverage.'’

Apparently, aside from monitoring opposing coaches call signs from the sidelines with a hidden camera, the Patriots monitor the other teams’ preseason rosters as well. And in case you’re wondering, YES, they’re keeping a close eye on EVERY SINGLE DUDE.

‘’I can’t think of anybody that was on that wire that we kind of hadn’t talked about as a possibility,'’ Belichick said.
