The South Florida Bulls meet the Cincinnati Bearcats in Week 10 of the 2008 NCAA College Football Season
In what is the only football game we have on a Thursday night, we have a good one between two good football programs in the nation.
Week 10 of the 2008 NCAA college football season continues as the No.23 South Florida Bulls take on the Cincinnati Bearcats with South Florida looking to regroup and get back on track after key losses that dropped them further down the BCS rankings.
The South Florida Bulls with an overall record of 6-2, 1-2 in conference play, is STILL the only ranked team in the Big East. They rose as high as No.10 in the AP poll at some point this year. However, losses to Pittsburgh and Louisville have put them on the verge of falling out of the rankings this season and these guys know they have to put it back together before time runs out. The Bulls are trying to avoid a repeat of last season when they were ranked as high as No.2 in the poll, but then dropped their next three to fall out of contention for a Big East title.
These guys came in averaging 194.6 rushing yards per game, led by the mobile quarterback Matt Grothe and tailback Mike Ford. However, Grothe only had 10 carries for minus-27 yards last Saturday while Ford was held to five carries for 13 yards in limited action.
On the other hand, the Cincinnati Bearcats, with an overall record of 5-2, 1-1 in conference play, are also coming off a loss after having their four-game winning streak snapped Saturday, 40-16 by Connecticut.
Cincinnati only allowed a total of 55 points during the four-game winning streak, but as impressive as that has been for Cincinnati, they gave up 20 in the fourth quarter alone en route to the ugly defeat to Connecticut last weekend.
Tony Pike and Chazz Anderson combined to throw for 259 yards for Cincinnati. Pike started for the first time since breaking his left (non-throwing) arm against Akron on Sept. 27, but only made it through the first half. It’s still uncertain whether he will be able to play Thursday.
This is the sixth all-time meeting between South Florida and Cincinnati. Cincinnati has won three of five, including the last two, as well as both meetings at Nippert Stadium.
