Tony Romo to Terrell Owens or Tony Romo to Jason Witten? Which is better for the Dallas Cowboys?
A win, that’s for sure.
Despite being picked as one of the heavy favorites to win the Super Bowl even before the 2008-09 NFL football season began, the Dallas Cowboys’ playoff bid this year is still uncertain, still needing to win their last two games in Baltimore and Philly to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Last season, my emotions went from the highest of the highs to the lowest of the lows as Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys blew a spectacular season only a few short weeks before the playoffs started.
This season, they’re at it again. After a
flawless start to the season, an injury to Tony Romo got the Cowboys struggling. Then star corner Pacman Jones gets banned, reinstated and out again for the season with an injury.
And to make matters worse, Terrell Owens is accusing both Romo and Jason Witten of designing their own plays, leaving him out in the cold.
For now, a win over the defending Super Bowl champions New York Giants last Sunday night should keep these issues within the Cowboys organization from blowing up. But if T.O. is unhappy about his touches, they better straighten things out with the guy or they will find out first hand how bad he literally blew the 49ers AND Eagles apart before he got to Dallas.
Terrell Owens had a private meeting with fellow Cowboys receivers Roy Williams and Patrick Crayton, complaining to offensive coordinator Jason Garrett about Tony Romo targeting his best friend, tight end Jason Witten, more during games in what they call a buddy system.
Witten is the Cowboys’ leading receiver with 64 passes. He caught 15 passes the past two games. On the other hand, Owens, Crayton and Williams have combined to catch 14 passes during the same span.
You can’t blame Romo for targeting his tight end more than his other receivers. Witten catches Romo’s passes more effectively. It’s as simple as that. And if the Cowboys, as a team, is more effective with Romo throwing to Witten than Romo throwing to T.O., then by all means, the guy should just keep on throwing the ball to Witten and AWAY from Owens.
