Will Kimi Raikkonen quit at the end of 2008 F1 Season?
Hmm… Funny how losing a couple of races will do to a man’s perspective eh?
The halfway point of the 2008 F1 season is here and after a champion’s welcome Kimi Raikkonen had at the start of the season, he finds himself behind his teammate Felipe Massa for this year’s drivers championship.
That’s good for third place, in case you were wondering and after finishing in first place TWICE in the first four races of the season, Kimi Raikkonen has yet to step on top of the podium again.
McLaren - Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton leads the drivers championship standings with 58 points, followed by Massa who has 54 and then Kimi with 51.
Many thought Raikkonen will still be the man in Ferrari after the championship season he just had. However, during the last few races, we saw Felipe Massa somewhat dethrone him for Ferrari’s main seat, leading Kimi where he is right now at this point of the season.
Leaning towards retirement.
You read it, rumors began to come out that Kimi Raikkonen will leave Formula One at the end of the season. And although Ferrari has yet to confirm it, the impending arrival of Fernando Alonso to the team makes you think of that possibility.
‘’I have time (to decide),'’ Kimi Raikkonen said when asked if he’ll still race for Ferrari in F1 after 2008. ‘’Why I should hurry? I have a contract for 2009 which I will fulfill despite all the speculation. I always keep my deals.'’
‘’I won’t get bored. When I stop Formula One, I intend having fun by running in other series. At some time I want to try rallying. That interests me; asphalt, gravel and ice.'’
