Yankees, Red Sox renew rivalry this 2008 MLB Season
Yes people, baseball season has started and we’re kicking it off for you when the Yankees and the Red Sox renew their rivalry on Friday.
You read it folks, the Yankees and the Red Sox will be facing off for the first time this 2008 MLB baseball season. It’ll be on this Friday, kicking off a three-game series that stretches until Sunday.
However, it seems both the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox are having their problems as of late. Nine games into the season and both teams are barely hovering around the .500 mark.
The New York Yankees, for one, have one of the worst offense in the majors. Against the Kansas City Royals, it was as clear as crystal to Jason Giambi that this Yankees team is in no way the same team that won titles for this city before.
‘’You look around and you’ve got young kids over there running around like maniacs, and we’re playing like a bunch of old men right now,'’ Yankees star Jason Giambi said, referring to their play against Kansas City. ‘’They’re playing good baseball. Unfortunately, we just haven’t really put anything together.'’
The Boston Red Sox, on the other hand, also realize that they too are not in form yet. ‘’We haven’t gotten into our groove yet,'’ Boston Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek said. ‘’We’ve got to work toward that.'’
‘’Obviously, we haven’t swung the bats real well yet. We’ve got to keep grinding out at-bats to get there.'’
Chien-Ming Wang is scheduled to start for the New York Yankees on the mound. Wang has a 1.38 ERA and is 2-0 so far this season. Against Tampa Bay last Sunday, he took a no hitter into the fifth inning despite only throwing 56 of his 96 for strikes.
Clay Buchholz will start for the Boston Red Sox. With a 5.40 ERA, the guy is yet to post a single win for the new season. However, with the Yankees playing poorly at bat, maybe Buchholz can pull off a fast one and escape with a W anyway.
Of course, we really can’t tell for sure.
