2009 College Football Week 10 Gambling Guide
How about that, we’re already in the halfway point of the college football calendar.
That’s right, the 2009 NCAA college football season continues with Week 10 and we have quite a few rivalries that will be revisited this weekend.
First off is this rivalry game between the Navy Midshipmen and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Notre Dame is coming off a 23-0 shutout win against Washington State. Yes, they never stood a chance and since Washington State is one of the worst teams this year both offensively and defensively, Notre Dame took advantage.
The 6-2 Notre Dame Fighting Irish are chasing a berth for a BCS bowl game this season. They will close out this month with a game at home against the Navy Midshipmen before taking on the Pittsburgh Pirates. They’ll be home for Connecticut and finish at Stanford.
Our pick? Since Navy quarterback Ricky Dobbs is questionable for this Saturday’s game, we’re picking Notre Dame to win it. Irish by seven.
The Ohio State Buckeyes and Penn State Nittany Lions collide at Beaver Stadium as Week 10 continues. Penn State (8-1, 4-1) had three touchdowns in less than 4 minutes to turn a squeaker into a rout in a 34-13 victory at Northwestern while Ohio State dispatched New Mexico State 45-0.
Neither team can afford to relax this week though. Both are 4-1 in the Big Ten and a game back of unbeaten Iowa, which defeated Penn State earlier in the year and still must play the Ohio State Buckeyes. This game between the two programs is huge, and they know it too.
”Penn State is definitely a big game,” Ohio State safety Kurt Coleman said. ”I love their crowd and the challenge of playing against Daryll Clark. From the beginning it’s an electric atmosphere.”
A loss would almost certainly knock a team out of the BCS picture.
”This is as big as they come,” Pryor said. ”I’ve been at Penn State a lot. It’s a crazy stadium, but it’s going to be fun. I was there the one day and the whole stadium was just shaking. It’s crazy like that, but I always want to play in tough stadiums against tough opponents. That’s where you measure yourself.”
Our pick? Penn State by a squeaker.
Last but certainly not the least, we have the Arizona State Sun Devils taking on one of the best teams in the league, the USC Trojans.
The Arizona State Sun Devils has been struggling coming out of the gate this season, partly because of a poor home non-conference schedule (Idaho State and Louisiana-Monroe). I won’t be surprised if the Sun Devils draw a mere 43,000 people to Sun Devil Stadium for Saturday’s homecoming game against a Cal team that began the season in the Top 25.
Adding more problems for ASU is that they will continue to miss the services of starting center Thomas Altieri and wide receivers Kerry Taylor, T.J. Simpson and Kyle Williams. All missed their previous game with various injuries and their status for this week’s match up versus USC is still doubtful.
Pick the Trojans to blow the Sun Devils away, by thirty, by forty, it doesn’t really matter.
