2009 NFL Football Season Week 10 Betting Picks
You read it, Week 10 of the 2009 NFL football season continues this Sunday with a huge lineup of games that will surely make or break one’s weekend. (Depending on who ya’ll are betting on of course…)
And while we all go ga-ga over the Pats – Colts matchup this Sunday night, there are still some huge games on this Sunday’s schedule that you shouldn’t dare miss. And since teams are starting to make that one last gasp for a playoff spot, we can expect some very very competitive games starting this Sunday all the way to the Super Bowl.
We’ll start off with this matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers. The Packers will look to bounce back from a disappointing loss to the once winless
Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Packers have dropped their last two games, sending them to a 4-4 mark. They desperately need a win when the Cowboys visit them at Lambeau.
Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was sacked six times for the second consecutive game last Sunday against the Bucs. Rodgers has absorbed a league-worst 37 sacks this year. Perhaps what’s even more unsettling is the way they virtually gave the game away to Tapa Bay.
Green Bay allowed a blocked punt that was returned for a touchdown and gave up an 83-yard kickoff return to Clifton Smith to set up the first of Tampa Bay’s three touchdowns in its fourth-quarter comeback. This is after the Packers surrendered big kick returns by Percy Harvin in their 38-26 loss to the Minnesota Vikings a week before.
While the Packers are struggling, the Dallas Cowboys on the other hand, are in the midst of a four-game winning streak, sitting atop the NFC East with a 6-2 mark.
”I think they have a good feeling together,” Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said. ”We have enough young people with veterans. If you want to talk chemistry or whatever, I think we have that with this team. We’re not a big ego team. We’re kind of a selfless team. But we’ll find out more now with everyone telling them they’re great. But I think they’ll handle it.”
Pick Tony Romo to lead the Cowboys to their fifth straight win. The Packers are just struggling and are clearly missing this old fart now playing in Minnesota.
Of course, we can’t have this NFL Week 10 gambling guide without breaking down arguably the biggest game of the week, the Patriots – Colts game on Sunday Night Football.
The New England Patriots will face their toughest challenge yet as they visit the undefeated Indianapolis Colts who have blitzed the league to a scintillating 8-0 mark. Good thing the Pats are red hot themselves, riding on a three-game winning streak after their 27-17 win over the Miami Dolphins.
The win improved the Patriots’ record to 6-2 and helped them open up a two-game lead over the Jets in the AFC East standings. Tom Brady would like nothing more than to end the Colts’ run for perfection the way the Giants did to his team two years ago when they were dealt with their first loss of the year in Super Bowl XLI.
Can they do it?
Tom Brady has had three games this season with more than 300 yards and looked to better his numbers last weekend against the Dolphins. Instead, they failed to score touchdowns on drives in which they had first downs at the 24, 27, 11 and 12. Only two of those drives included legit red-zone possessions, but being inside the 30 is practically close enough.
The bottom line is, the Patriots need to be better against the Indianapolis Colts this Sunday because Indianapolis won’t let them get away with the same mistakes the Pats made against the Dolphins.
Our pick? As good as the Patriots have been lately, Peyton Manning is just playing fantastic football. Pick ‘em to win by a field goal.
Monday Night Football features another classic NFL rivalry as the Baltimore Ravens take on the struggling Cleveland Browns. The Browns come off their bye week in the most unusual of situations, trying to rebuild a front office in the middle of the season.
Browns owner Randy Lerner says he still stands by coach Eric Mangini. However, that doesn’t seem to stop him from looking for somebody else to run his football operation, someone who will evaluate Mangini in the final eight games and make a decision on his future after the season.
The Baltimore Ravens are not having a walk in the park themselves. Joe Flacco had his worst game of the season last Sunday. He threw two interceptions, but he could have thrown four against a Bengals team looking to make a trip to the playoffs this season. Flacco finished with a season-low QB rating of 48.3.
The Ravens only converted one first down and that came in the final two minutes of the game. Wide receiver Derrick Mason was limited to three catches and didn’t make his first until the first minute of the third quarter.
With both offenses struggling, this game will be won on defense. And since Ray Lewis still plays for the Ravens, pick ‘em to beat the struggling Browns, 6-3.
