2009 Southern 500 has NASCAR screaming GoDaddy!

For the first time ever, popular website GoDaddy.com will be presenting us something other than a half-naked bombshell.

The 2009 NASCAR Southern 500 is the annual spring NASCAR Sprint Cup race held at Darlington Raceway in Darlington, South Carolina, USA, that runs on May 9. This will be the 11th race on the Sprint Cup Circuit and for the first time ever, GoDaddy.com is presenting the event.

How’s that to create some hype around the usually boring 2009 NASCAR season eh? The 2009 Southern 500 is the only Sprint Cup race the Darlington Raceway will have all year.

Candice MichelleThankfully, the International Speedway Corp., Darlington’s parent company, has one more title sponsorship to sell for its August race at Michigan.

As far as GoDaddy.com is concerned, how in the hell did they ended up with things NASCAR?

The Internet domain name provider has sponsorships with Hendrick Motorsports and JR Motorsports of Dale Earnhardt Jr., as well as a handful of track deals. The site is also well-known for its creative and edgy commercials so giving them a go at NASCAR was inevitable considering the fact that the sport really needs an awesome marketing tool these days.

Carl Edwards will make his sixth NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start at the Darlington Raceway in this weekend’s Southern 500. In five starts at the 1.366-mile track, Edwards has two top-five and four top-10 finishes. Edwards scored his best finish at Darlington, second place last year.

Edwards has attempted 1838 laps in Cup Series competition at Darlington. He has completed 1752 laps.

After a disappointing 26th-place finish at Richmond, Edwards dropped to ninth place in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings. He trails leader Jeff Gordon by 237 points.

Who will win the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Southern 500 this weekend? SportsBetting.com has the odds.

Jeff Gordon 7-1

Dale Earnhardt Jr. 20-1

Jimmie Johnson 6-1

Carl Edwards 7-1
